Going Beyond Behavior

Masturbation is about self-soothing and getting a release. Establishing carefully chosen replacement behaviors, reorienting urges and improved self-care are helpful in successfully overcoming your behavior. Some people go through all kinds of gyrations trying to figure out a healthy form of masturbation that doesn’t lead to unhealthy behavior. We just think it’s easier to work on the behavior itself, restoring peace and control to individuals. Here’s what we’re finding:

The Pilot Study

We reported a 50% reduction in symptoms through our 6-month Advanced Recovery Training program in our pilot study. That’s quite an accomplishment for such a short period of time. People continue to progress as they move into the next Phase of the program – Long-term Support. No one else has ever published outcomes for a technology-based intervention for pornography and masturbation, some of the hardest behaviors to break.

What else are we finding?

Regression analyses continue to indicate that the program is effective and the results are strong and consistent. These kinds of analyses tell us how much change to expect given a certain amount of time. What we’re finding is a 10% reduction in symptoms month over month on average (or a 10% improvement month over month in positive areas such as Self-Forgiveness, and Meaning and Purpose in Life). It is very encouraging to see successes in the clinic translate so well online. In some ways, we’re even more successful online because the technology takes the change principles into your lived context where they can be most effective.
